Principal Consultant - Sheffield

We are seeking a highly motivated and well-organised Principal Consultant to play a key role in the long-term strategic development of our Sheffield team.  

You will have a minimum of 8 years consultancy experience, be well versed in most aspects of ecological survey and mitigation planning - especially for European protected species - and have a clear and detailed knowledge of the legislative and policy background that underpins consultancy work.

Experience gained on large-scale infrastructure schemes (including wind energy and highways) would be an advantage, as would experience of the Public Inquiry process. Key day-to-day elements of the role includes organisation of survey teams, overseeing project budgets and preparing impact assessment reports, including Environmental Statement chapters.

You must be able to clearly and concisely communicate survey findings and implications to clients, statutory agencies and in-house staff and, therefore, you will need excellent verbal and written communication skills.  The ability to undertake quality assurance on documents prior to release to clients is highly desirable. 

The role also involves staff management and a positive and motivational approach to team working is crucial.    An aptitude for and an interest in business development will be a considerable asset, since part of the role will be to find and help develop new clients, consolidate existing ones and to help move the practice into new business sectors.   

As the work load from our Sheffield office covers the whole of northern England, the Midlands and East Anglia, a full driving licence is essential. Candidates must hold full membership of IEEM and either hold or be eligible to apply for Chartered status. 

Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The package also includes a generous leave allowance, a company pension and private medical health insurance.
