Phase 1 Habitat Survey may not always be appropriate where more detailed information is required. Our botanical surveyors are highly competent in Phase 2 NVC (National Vegetation Classification) survey for commercial and conservation interests. By comparing site habitats and vegetation boundaries with national vegetation types we can provide a detailed site overview of habitat complexity and compare plant community types, including those of conservation interest, with local, regional and national communities.

Hedgerow surveys

Where site works affect hedgerows we undertake surveys to Hedgerow Regulations guideline standards. In some cases, more detailed information may be required in respect of a hedgerow's ecological importance and an assessment using the Hedgerow Evaluation and Grading System (HEGS) can be undertaken.

River Corridor Survey and River Habitat Survey

These techniques can be used to map physical features and habitats along 500m stretches of river. Such maps are particularly useful for informing developments alongside watercourses and for providing input into EIA.

Rare plants surveys

Our specialists can undertake detailed survey of botanical diversity and abundance, to determine the range of rare species present on a site, provide a baseline against which to monitor change, inform an assessment of a site's conservation value and help guide appropriate site management.
