Planning consent for dwellings on land adjacent to Park Hill Brick Pits Local Nature Reserve was granted with conditions including ecological enhancement.
AMA helped design and construct two wetland features in the reserve to take surface run-off from the development and enhance conservation value locally in the reserve.
One wetland intercepted run-off via a ditch and gabion silt trap before water was discharged into a local watercourse. The second wetland was offline and obtained water via precipitation - encouraging level fluctuation and providing specialised microhabitats for aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates.
Sluices on adjacent ditches ensured the seasonal pool did not dry out completely. Habitats around both pools have become colonised by a wide range of aquatic plants and invertebrates, including local and regional rarities.
