AMA chair Scottish Renewables seminar on Birds and Wind Farms

AMA was recently invited to present a paper on bats and wind farms at a Scottish Renewables seminar on birds and wind farms, held in Glasgow in May 2009. The two day event included contributions from speakers including The Crown Estate, Scottish Natural Heritage and the RSPB.

AMA's Dr Stephen Holloway presented a technical paper on bat mortality research and highlighted the work of the BWEA sub-group on bats and wind farms,  with which AMA is strongly involved.

Dr Holloway also chaired the plenary session, where a panel comprising Scottish Renewables, RSPB, Scottish Natural Heritage and Natural Research discussed the issues of the two day seminar with the audience. Topics covered included the urgent need to develop further guidance on bird avoidance rates; how to assess cumulative impacts; how to incorporate survey data into site design; habitat management plan production; assessing offshore wind farm survey methods and sensitivity mapping.
